Programme details: •Smithfield has 22 bedrooms, with communal bathrooms and other communal areas, such as, dining room, lounges, art room, quiet room and a garden with smoking shelter, for client use. •Better than national average waiting times - service users are admitted within 3 weeks of the receipt of their referral, if we have all relevant information and no delay has been requested. •Quick and efficient referral process - Following the submission of complete paperwork, the referral process could be as short as three working days. •All referrals are triaged by senior clinicians. •Facility to enable SU admissions from hospital A & E departments. •A Pre-admission assessment with our Consultant for service users with complex needs is conducted by our lead consultant. •Close work with service users to design their treatment pathway to maximise outcomes •On call medical support 24/7. – With our consultant •Access to a range of treatment regimes based on the service user's need, with a comprehensive care plan and risk management plan for each individual. •One key worker assigned to each service user •Weekly case reviews with our Consultant. •The nurse led service ensures that waking nurses and support workers are on site 24/7 offering real assistance through the psychological and physiological effects that accompany alcohol and drug withdrawals. •A collaborative working arrangement with commissioners to help with forward planning and to avoid the disappointment of losing a placement.
Family support services: Children and families are welcome to visit their relatives daily at specific times. Family rooms are made available for such visits, as children are not permitted on the unit or in the garden. Smithfiled Service is fully compliant with all safeguarding children regulations.
Activities provided for children and families: We have a designated family room for those service users who have children visiting them. Toys, games, books and DVDs are available, along with some craft activities, for children visiting the service.
Post treatment support: The service user’s treatment plan must demonstrate a commitment to abstinence and have a robust discharge plan in place. Service users will not be admitted without a clear, care plan for post-treatment support and a commitment to their own recovery. Link Node Mapping in key working and groups will focus on discharge planning.
Harm reduction policies for clients leaving the programme early: Links with community workers and daily support services are encouraged.
Resettlement / after-care services: All substance misuse service users can be referred on to one of our rehab services as part of their recovery treatment pathway. Alternatively, service users will be discharged back to an apprpirate address where they will continue with their recovery in the community with the support of their worker and locally accessible services.

Detox programme details: •4 day/3 night night ‘kick start’ inpatient medical and psychological detoxification to be completed within a community programme. Only for those service users who have a robust support network within their community. •7 night inpatient medically managed alcohol detoxification •14 night methadone stabilisation •14 night respite for amphetamine, cannabis, crack etc •14 night heroin detoxification, symptomatic lofexadine relief •21 night methadone detox- •21 night buprenorphine detox •21 night opiate detox •28 night combination detox also available for consecutive detoxifications •Regular key worker sessions •2 ITEP (Node Link Mapping) groups per day •The groups follow the RECOVERY model- empowering service users and facilitating defining their own journey and path to their Recovery •All groups are fully manaulised utilising node link mapping and the RECOVERY MODEL covering ; 1.Getting Motivated to Change 2.Building Motivation 3.Ideas Communication 4.Understand and reduce angry feelings 5.Unlock your Thinking and Open your Mind 6.Preventing Relapse in Drugs and Alcohol 7.Exiting treatment 8.Building Social Networks 9.Transition Skills for Recovery 10.HIV and AIDs, Hep C and STD’s prevention 11.Drugs and Alcohol physical and physiological effects •There are other ‘add ons’ such as parenting skills, key working sessions will also use link node mapping incorporating the group programme and into the discharge care package •The focus of the group programme and key working is preparation for discharge – whether that is rehab, community programme or back to the drug or alcohol team. •There are activities such as acupuncture, art groups, film night, quiz night •Staff will escort service users to support groups as a part of their treatment package.

Admission and discharge information:
Assessment and admissions: •Referral/assessment form completed by Tier 3 provider and the service user •Referral/assessment received by Smithfield •Any relevant outstanding information will be requested •Referral triaged by a Clinical Team Leader Once all pertinent information collected, assessment been seen by our Consultant and we are happy that the service user is prepared for detoxification, an admission date is offered; If necessary an appointment will be made for the Consultant’s preadmission clinic - this will be co-ordinated with admission date •The service user and thier key worker are communicated with at every step of the way and the service user will be offered a visit to the service prior to admission, if they feel they will benefit from this; •Service user is admitted to the unit •The service user will attend two groups per day and 2 key working sessions for 7 night stay and 5 key working sessions for a 21 night programme •Focus of the admission is on discharge planning and a commitment to abstinence and long term recovery

Service user reviews: “I arrived at Turning Point after taking the good advice of a friend who sign-posted me to this service as it had benefited his own recovery immeasurably. I arrived from my life of sexual, physical and emotional abuse totally shattered and virtually broken beyond repair. Upon arrival I was greeted by staff who instilled me with feelings of faith and hope, nurturing my recovery from alcoholism. Their support had no boundaries for they supported me with a choice I made to begin to resolve some very painful issues. I did relapse upon leaving the detox but the seeds of change were firmly planted. In 2002 I was welcomed into one of their supported housing schemes where I remained for 9 months and achieved 18 months of abstinence. I have never drunk alcohol since. This was the first time I'd been clean of substances since I'd been a small boy. I learned so much about myself with the support of Turning Point, they gave me the time to heal and learn to believe in my potential.
