Programme details:
The new ADS detoxification service is advertised separately, but is situated across the road from Bridge House.
The programme is based on giving as much responsibility to individuals as possible and works on person-centred principals. Counselling and practical 1: 1s are provided weekly and, if individuals so wish, joint sessions can additionally be offered with residents and their partner/family/friend.
Groups form the main focus of the programme – offering a mix of structured and unstructured sessions. These include single gender and topic-specific groups – e.g. exploring feelings, education/training/employment, life story, ITEP-focused workshops (relapse prevention, self-awareness, alcohol/drug education, health, etc), housing support, video discussion (on any related topic), life skills coaching, food hygiene, preparing for discharge, etc.
Holistic therapies include auricular acupuncture, relaxation and anxiety management.
Other sessions include an in-depth/focused peer review process and resident-lead community issues group.
Other details:
As well as the weekly activity group (learning to socialise and undertake fun activities without alcohol) there is a programme of social events throughout the year: Sponsored walk, summer fete, Halloween party, various Christmas events, etc. Additionally, there is an annual 3-day trip to the Lake District offering residents a wide variety of activities.
Bridge House embraces the Personalisation Agenda and strives to maximise opportunities for residents to maintain as much control over their treatment as possible. This is achieved through community groups and once a resident begins 2nd stage, they are provided with a virtual budget to choose which sessions they feel will best meet their goals/support plan.
Residents are involved in every aspect of the management of the home: service evaluation, interviewing/recruitment, staff appraisal and supervision, etc.
|
Family support services:
There is a bi-monthly evening support group for family/friends of residents who wish to invite them. The group focuses on substance misuse awareness/education and demystifies treatment.
If residents so wish, joint 1: 1 counselling sessions are also available.
|
Activities provided for children and families:
The project has a specialist Children & Family Project Worker, supporting residents with parenting issues and developing related skills through 1: 1 and specialist groups. This includes working with the child and parent pre/post and during treatment: developing as a parent, rebuilding relationships, court/core conference/social service support, etc.
A separate homely property is available to residents to have overnight/weekend time with their partners and children in privacy. Activities include toys/games and re-learning play with children as well as social events throughout the year.
|
Post treatment support:
Bridge House operates a 3rd stage for residents who are able to secure additional funding – after at least 6 months of treatment. The resident will live at home and choose, up to the value of their budget, options from within the available programme that they feel will assist them to meet their ongoing needs.
This after care enables individuals to be with their families/children, to continue to build those relationships, whilst accessing support.
Additionally, there is a weekly ex-residents’ support group and availability of 1: 1 sessions
|
Harm reduction policies for clients leaving the programme early:
Residents can attend the project (on the day following discharge for the above) for an emergency community meeting to ask for their place back. A decision is made by the staff team. Alternatively, clients can continue to access support, providing they remain abstinent. A full risk assessment is undertaken on unplanned discharge looking at medication and onward process. Clients are always discharged to a place of safety, ultimately, if home is not appropriate, to a local hotel, provided with a discharge information sheet.

Resettlement / after-care services:
Bridge House operates a 3rd stage for residents who are able to secure additional funding – after at least 6 months of treatment. The resident will live at home and choose, up to the value of their budget, options from within the available programme that they feel will assist them to meet their ongoing needs.
This after care enables individuals to be with their families/children, to continue to build those relationships, whilst accessing support.
Additionally, there is a weekly ex-residents’ support group and availability of 1: 1 sessions.
Prior to discharge, the project works very closely with local/other area agencies in assisting individuals with the vital aspect of resettlement. There are good links with housing, benefits, education and employment agencies.
